The freedom of making.
Painting has become a way of working without the expectations that accompany a life in music. On large canvases, I find freedom in color, texture, and gesture—following instinct rather than a predetermined result.
It is a quieter, more private part of my creative life, and one that reminds me of the pleasure of making something simply for its own sake.
